Optimize and Market: ane.energy adds large-scale battery storage to portfolio

In the middle of the Reußenköge citizens' wind farm, one of Germany's largest onshore parks with an installed capacity of over 300 MW: This is where the large-scale battery storage system is located. It was planned, constructed, and commissioned by Dirkshof and has now been connected to the virtual power plant of green electricity trader and direct marketer ane.energy. The storage system has a capacity of 8 MWh and a usable power output of 6.4 MW. Dirk Ketelsen, Managing Director of Dirkshof: "The construction and operation of the storage system fits perfectly with the many other innovative large-scale projects we are implementing in the region."

ane.energy is responsible for the economic operation of the storage system. The company provides its trading expertise as a member of the EPEX-Spot exchange and has worked intensively over the past months to connect the battery storage to the virtual power plant with a suitable communication interface. All necessary trading processes are automated, ensuring 24/7 operation.

Initially, the storage system will be optimized in a cascaded manner for the Day-Ahead and Intraday markets. Ralf Höper, Managing Director of ane.energy: "The bidirectional trading of flexibilities is of crucial importance to us, as we have now established another business field with asset-backed strategies in response to increasing market price volatility."

The balancing energy market will also be significant in the future. "Of course, we are also monitoring price developments in the balancing energy market, which should provide additional value in the future. However, the price signals with optimal operation on the exchange are currently very competitive," describes Cord Kaldemeyer from ane.energy regarding further development opportunities.

Stationary large-scale battery storage systems help stabilize the power grid and cut peak loads. They are thus an essential pillar for the success of the energy transition. Additionally, they can generate additional revenue through marketing on the electricity market.
