Press Release: HeidelbergCement AG Commits to Green Power from ane.energy through 2023

Monday, March 7, 2022

Once again, the young Husum-based energy trading house ane.energy has concluded a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with an industrial customer: For one of the world's largest building materials companies, HeidelbergCement AG, the company has taken wind turbines from subsidized direct marketing and combined them with post-EEG facilities. These are now producing green energy directly for the industrial customer.

What makes this special: The structured supply according to customer specifications required different output levels for the quarters in 2022. For this purpose, ane.energy included facilities from Schleswig-Holstein in the PPA for the first quarter, with an installed capacity of around 42 megawatts. For quarters 2-4, facilities from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with an installed capacity of 8 megawatts are ready. In total, the energy supply for 2022 will amount to over 40,000 megawatt hours – and a delivery has already been agreed upon for 2023.

"For us, HeidelbergCement is an important customer for whom we have created a green power supply exactly according to their wishes," explains ANE Managing Director Ralf Höper. "We were able to transfer the facilities from the subsidized market premium model to other direct marketing at short notice, thereby demonstrating that they have achieved market parity with current high wholesale electricity prices."

The team at ane.energy also designed the delivery and billing process according to the customer's specifications: ane.energy first delivers the energy to HeidelbergCement's energy service provider, Pfalzwerke, which in turn supplies the building materials group with green electricity. "The trilateral approach ensures that we have no breaks in our internal billing processes, and it makes it particularly easy for us," explains Tobias Ostermann, Head of Electricity and Gas at HeidelbergCement. "The project was meant to be a trial balloon for the process around billing, data delivery, and schedule creation – and we are very satisfied. ane.energy and Pfalzwerke have demonstrated a very high degree of flexibility and thus paved the way for an expansion of the collaboration."
