Press Release: ane.energy signs Corporate Power Purchase Agreement with SCHOTT

Tuesday, February 4, 2025

Effective immediately, ane.energy is delivering approximately 14.5 gigawatt hours per year to technology group SCHOTT through a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) from a solar park in Schleswig Holstein. The world-leading specialty glass manufacturer is using the green electricity at its headquarters in Mainz as well as at plants in Grünenplan, Mitterteich, and Landshut. With this CPPA, the company covers about five percent of its annual electricity requirements in Germany. The contract was initially signed for a term of two years.

According to the agreed delivery concept, SCHOTT receives exactly the green electricity fed into the grid from the solar park, including certificates of origin "as produced" from ane.energy. The green electricity quality is additionally certified by EKOenergy.

SCHOTT's ambitious climate goals

Similar to the steel industry, making energy-intensive manufacturing climate-neutral is a major challenge for the specialty glass manufacturer. SCHOTT aims to achieve this by 2030, pursuing significantly more ambitious goals than international competitors. The essential step toward this goal is converting production from gas to electricity, with electricity coming from renewable sources – like the solar energy in this case. However, the company requires the energy equivalent of up to 10,000 single-family homes annually to power a single melting tank with electricity. "We are pleased that we are coming significantly closer to our decarbonization goal together with ane.energy," confirms Thomas Hahn, Global Category Manager Energy at SCHOTT.

ane.energy as an enabler of the energy transition

As with other industrial companies before, ane.energy, based in Husum and Hamburg, is now supporting SCHOTT in implementing ambitious climate goals. Thanks to its large portfolio, the green electricity specialist and direct marketer was able to specifically select facilities and offer a suitable, customized contract. "This CPPA demonstrates that renewables are capable of reliably supplying industrial companies," explains Ralf Höper, Managing Director of ane.energy. Currently, the company bundles several thousand MW of capacity in its virtual power plant.
